My Design Philosophy

As an Instructional Designer with teaching experience, I am a big advocate for education and creating life-long learners. I believe that even as adults, we never stop learning. Even if an individual is an expert in a field, they should be continually developing their expertise as new research and information is released. The best way to create life-long adult learners is by designing accessible, inclusive, and engaging learner-centered instructional solutions.

Learner-Centered

Designing learner-centered trainings for adult learners involves tailoring the content, delivery, and assessments to meet the specific needs, interests, and goals of the learners. This includes incorporating interactive activities, real-world applications, and opportunities for self-directed learning. By providing choices, feedback, and support throughout the training process, learner-centered approaches empower adults to take ownership of their learning and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Accessible

Creating accessible trainings for adult learners involves designing content and delivery methods that cater to diverse learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds. Some ways I do this includes providing alternative formats like audio or transcripts, using plain language, and incorporating multimedia for visual and auditory learners. By prioritizing inclusivity and flexibility, accessible trainings can effectively engage adult learners and enhance their learning experience.

Engaging & Interactive

Creating interactive and engaging trainings for adult learners involves incorporating various strategies to capture their interest and promote active participation. This includes using interactive multimedia such as videos and virtual activities to enhance learning experiences. When appropriate, I also like to incorporate gamification techniques, such as badging, simulations, and roleplay scenarios. By integrating diverse learning methods and encouraging learner involvement, interactive and engaging trainings can effectively motivate adult learners and enhance their retention of knowledge.
